Tutorial: Chemical Organization Theory

The tutorial will present a new perspective on the organization of living systems, which complementsthe common pathway-oriented view. The basic idea is to identify chemical organizations as algebraically closed and self-maintaining sets of molecular species. Furthermore, the approach provides a fundamentally new perspective on the qualitative dynamics of a bio-chemical system, namely, as a transition between chemical organizations.

 

The tutorial will be self-contained, i.e., we will start with a general introduction to bio-chemical reaction network modelling. Only basic mathematical knowledge is required. The tutorial is especially addressed to biologists and bioinformaticians who are interested in formal approaches.
